We usually see this slogan: “.info domains just $0.99″. Many domain providers are trying to get more visitors with this slogan. But! Do you think that it worths to publish a website with an .info domain? If you ask me, i say NO.

Why do people choose .info domains?

Info domains are the choice of the people who thinks to make hundreds of website (bulk copy of each other). They choose .info domains because they are cheap. They are almost free :)

In directories…

I know many people that makes hundreds of web directories to make more money. But each of these web directories need special care to be a good and quality. But people miss this issue and they make websites that chickens blurt out :) So, instead of giving $8-$10 to each of them, they choose the cheap way and buy .info domains. Actually, their starting point is wrong by making hundreds of directories.

So, what to do?

I would recommend you to register one, quality domain with .com extension (at least for 2 years) and point all of your interest to it.

  • Make a keyword research with Google Adwords Keyword Research Tool and find the best keywords for your directory.
  • Register the best domain that fits your keywords.
  • Use one of PHP Link Directory, eSyndiCat, Subrion,  or write your own directory script (recommended).
  • Install your directory script and make SEO for the keywords that you found with keyword research.
  • Find unique categories.
  • Add some content to your directory. Go and find good, quality website to add your directory.
  • Announce your directory on forums (Digital Point, V7N, etc…)
  • Use it at forum signatures.
  • Add it to directory lists like Directory Trends.
  • Add it to the directories of directories.
  • Use social bookmarking like Digg, Reddit, Del.icio.us, etc…

This list goes on like this. But as you see; finding a good domain must be the starting point of your web directory and it has to be a non-info domain.
